Ocean & Coasts: Underwater Robots
There are two main types of underwater robot: Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). the AUVs are underwater robots that are control without a pilot or cable to a ship or submersible. For the RIVs is a unoccupied robots that is controlled by a group of cables from the ship. Underwater robots has systems like Power, Propulsion, Communication, Buoyancy control, navigation and info gathering. The ROVs have tools to help them with what they need to do. For example the ROVs have manipulator or cutting arms, water samplers, and measuring instruments. For AUVs since there are control on there own, they are able to cover large areas of the ocean floor. The AUVs follow underwater mountains ranges, fly around sheer pinnacles and dive into narrow trenches. The AUVs takes photographs and collect data and samples. Since people can't communicate with the AUVs they use computer to send instructions. Also AUV can send instructions and can receive data with sound waves.
